Excursion to the Karmeliten Brewery

On January 24th, the students of the “Bioprocess Engineering” module visited the Karmeliten Brewery in Straubing-Ittling. During the tour, the master brewer, Mr. Eichenseher, not only explained the procedural details of the brewing process, from the brewhouse to bottling. The extensive measures that the brewery has implemented in recent years to produce beer more sustainably were particularly interesting. In addition to a photovoltaics and a biogas system, a snow cannon was also installed, which produces snow to cool the beer when the weather permits. The students thus got a comprehensive impression of how the content learned in the lecture can be practically implemented on a large scale.
