Research

The focus of the professorship is the development of sustainable bioprocesses involving biocatalysts like enzymes and microorganisms. Biogenic raw materials are used which do not compete with the food chain such as agricultural residues and waste streams. The products are e.g. bio-based platform chemicals, biofuels, and biodegradable biopolymers. The professorship comprises enzymatic reactions, fermentation processes, downstream processing and bioprocess design. Specific research focus is laid on model-based process design, enzyme immobilization, tolerant fermentation processes, soft sensors, innovative downstream processing, and upscaling of bioprocesses.
